Italy’s three representatives in the Champions League all play Serie A fixtures on Saturday, in light of the resumption of European competition next week. Inter Milan are still defending a commanding lead, and it is looking increasingly likely that the main battle will take place for the minor honours, but that still provides exciting betting action.

If as expected Inter Milan take three points at home to Livorno at Saturday lunch time, they will briefly open up an eleven point gap over second placed Roma. With the Giallorossi facing a tough trip to Juve later in the day, that advantage could easily remain, rendering the Scudetto all but over. Having dropped just two points at the San Siro all season, the chances of Livorno upsetting the apple cart may appear minimal, but the Amaranto are showing resilience away from home.
This will be a quick return to the San Siro for Livorno, as they played there on Wednesday night, holding the other side of Milan to a draw. That result means they have lost just one of their last six away games, recovering from what was a disastrous start under coach, Fernando Orsi, taking two points from their first seven games. Orsi’s replacement, Giancarlo Camolese, has been far more successful, lifting them out of the relegation places, and his battling side will give everything on Saturday to upset the mighty Inter, knowing they have a huge game against Liverpool on the horizon.

Roma kept their faint title hopes alive last weekend, bouncing back from the disappointment of losing 3-0 at Siena a fortnight ago, to beat Reggina 2-0 in the capital. The Giallorossi cannot afford any further slips up to stand any chance of catching Inter, but the reality is that second place is probably the best they can achieve. They would take a big step toward that target if they win away at third placed Juventus on Saturday evening. Roma coach, Luca Spalletti, has the additional burden of preparing for the Champions League game against Real Madrid on Tuesday, whereas the Old Lady has no such distraction. Claudio Ranieri will probably be without Mauro Camoranesi, who pulled up training with a back problem, to join long term absentees, Marco Marchionni and Jorge Andrade. Spalletti will have to decide whether to shuffle his pack ahead of the Madrid game, balancing the importance of what are both critical fixtures. Juve are unbeaten in 13 league games, but have drawn the last two at home, while Roma have won five of their last six.
